Bonnie Mangold studied at the Juilliard School of music with famed cellist Zara Nelsova and later with William Pleeth in London. She was principal cellist for three years with the National Orchestra of Colombia, in Bogotá, before joining the Utah Symphony cello section. In addition to her symphony career, Bonnie has performed extensively as a member of various chamber music groups, including the Mangold Duo with pianist Marilyn Mangold Garst.
At present, she lives in south-central Utah where she recently published a book about music and her life experiences titled Journey Into the Heart of Music that includes her own compositions for solo cello. Because what is gained by an extreme focus on technical expertise often comes at the expense of the very reason for making music—touching the human heart—her book addresses this issue. As the principles apply to all the arts and to life itself, it can be enjoyed by both musicians and non-musicians.
