Diane Barrett grew up always using her hands and eyes--drawing, painting, constructing and playing in the woods. After earning a fine arts degree, she spent forty years working in the floral industry in Brooklyn, Washington DC and San Francisco. She moved to Torrey in 2012, where she became part of Gallery 24.
These constructions are collections of symbols. Art is a grouping of symbols-usually lines, colors and shapes, but Diane has organized different symbols here--flags, bluebirds, longhorns, houses, even peeps, beer cans and doughnuts. These are symbols of various aspects of the environment here as she sees it. The red, white and blue is so familiar that you will no doubt bring some of your own thoughts and humor to each piece--which is as it should be.
This is Diane's landscape--enjoy!
