It is September in Wayne County and the first bits of frost have dazzled the landscape. The irrigation is still pumping water, leaving our beautiful weathered fence lines dripping with wintery icicles. Summer was going along minding its own business and now, very suddenly, it’s cold! Perfect weather for the Boulder Half Marathon coming down route 12 on Saturday morning, September 29. Last minute registration will be on Friday evening, September 28, at the Torrey town park.
It’s cozy and warm and wonderfully interesting here in Gallery 24! Robert White, our wood carver, has brought lots of new chickens and trout and we have a brand new selection of Tim’s Mississippi Delta 3 String Cigar Box guitars. So, rather than gearing down, we are energized by the weather and the influx of visitors from all over. This is our busiest and most beautiful time of the year, so do make a reservation and come help us enjoy it. Bring your cameras and sketchbooks and paints because inspiration is certain to strike! This week is the wonderful Everett Ruess plein air painting competition in Escalante. The artists are all around the area making images to hang for the weekend show/sale in Escalante. And Scotty Mitchell, pastel artist in Boulder, is having a studio open house on Saturday, September 29. Do check her website!
We have a fabulous new photographer at Gallery 24, who is definitely not to be missed. His name is Steve Babbitt and although he resides and teaches in South Dakota, he has been photographing the southwest landscape for a very long time and has recently built a second home here in Torrey. He is a long time friend and we are super excited to welcome his work here at Gallery 24. His prints are selling quickly so do stop for a look.
A cider business is coming to town with a new building going up over the next months. It will be a wonderful addition to our commercial line up and will be at the west end of town, opposite the 700 West Rd. Etta Place Cidery will be pouring a foundation very soon and we can’t wait to see it all come together. For those of you who have participated in the September Community Apple Crushing for the past 3 years, this is the next step!
Don’t forget to check in at Fish Lake on your way to town. Right now, this last week of September, we have heard the foliage is perfect. We are headed up there today with our cameras poised for some perfect colors - the spectacle here is all free for the taking!
Enjoy the visual feast and travel safely.
